A Summary of the Paleo Diet

Many people have tried so many different diets, that when a new one comes along they want to know if it is going to work. Fad diets rarely do work and you need a diet that changes your whole lifestyle, including the way that you eat. The Paleo diet may be for you, it has become very popular over the last few years and many people are seeing results by using it.

The paleo diet is also known as the caveman diet, and is considered one of the healthiest diets in the world. Paleo is short for Paleolithic, which describes the period in time when we were still cavemen. At this time humans were hunter gatherers and never ate grains or dairy, our bodies were genetically coded to only eat foods that were hunted or gathered. Over the years our bodies have adapted to allow us to eat other foods, all of which are not good for us. A great deal that we consume is processed and packaged; these are the foods that you should be trying to avoid.

As time went on we began to eat grains, beans and potatoes as we learnt to grow them, but they aren't necessarily good for you. The extreme levels of carbohydrates that you consume today, is so high and you should try to cut back. A western diet consists of too many omega 6 fats and not enough omega 3 fats. This is one of the reasons that there is more heart disease and cancer now than ever before, people need to look at what they are eating. People who have changed their way of thinking and eating and have started the paleo diet have benefited from it in a huge way.

The paleo diet selects the foods that would have been available for cavemen; these include fish, game meats, berries, eggs, fruits and nuts. You will need to fully understand which foods are good for you and which ones aren't. There is no set amount you simply have to eat until you are full, which is a strange concept when on a diet. There are no additives or preservatives just natural healthy food, and even the game meat should be roasted to achieve the full paleo diet. The problem with even eating the foods which are allowed is that they are often grown or reared using un-healthy pesticides and fertilizers. If possible try to eat organic fruits and free range animals, as these are so much healthier and more like what cavemen would have eaten.

People who have tried the paleo diet have achieved great results; they have more energy and feel and look better. This diet will cleanse your whole body and because it takes will power you will be strengthening your mind as well. Your whole body will benefit from the paleo diet, and although it doesn't suit everybody you should try it for a while and see the results. Once the weight begins to fall off and your skin feels so much fresher, you will wonder why you hadn't tried it before now.
